El presente estudio puede calificarse de verdaderamente modélico tanto desde el punto de vista de la
Historia Contemporánea como del de la Historia del Arte. El Doctor Alvarez Lopera ha tenido el mérito
doble de haber elegido un tema trascendente y sometido hasta el momento presente al tratamiento de la
propaganda, cuando no al más puro, simple y radical desconocimiento, y de, además, haber agotado
prácticamente las fuentes disponibles acerca de él con una minuciosidad verdaderamente laudable. No
disponemos hasta el momento de un estudio de suficiente envergadura sobre la política de conservación
del Patrimonio durante la etapa republicana anterior a la guerra civil y hasta la aparición del presente
estudio tan sólo unas cuantas vaguedades podían ser dichas sobre la labor de protección del Patrimonio
Histórico Artístico por parte del bando que perdió la guerra. El Dr. Alvarez Lopera ha sabido en las páginas
que siguen, integrándolo en el contexto de la política cultural general de la República, explicar detenidamente
la trayectoria administrativa de la protección del Patrimonio, la lucha por el control de quienes
lo destruían, los pros y contras de los traslados de las obras de arte del Museo del Prado, el papel
de la propaganda y del sectarismo de partido y otras cuestiones de no menor trascendencia. De su detenido
estudio se pueden ya extraer unas conclusiones que prácticamente agotan la Investigación a pesar
de las previsibles dificultades para que así fuera dadas las dificultades objetivas de la misma.

The politics of cultural property of the republican government during the Spanish Civil War vol. I and II
The present study can be described as truly exemplary from the point of view of both Contemporary History and the History of Art. Doctor Alvarez Lopera has had the double merit of having chosen a transcendent theme and subjected to the present moment to the treatment of propaganda, if not to the purest, simple and radical ignorance, and, in addition, to have exhausted practically the available sources about of him with a truly laudable thoroughness. We do not have until now a study of sufficient scope on the conservation policy of the Patrimony during the republican period prior to the civil war and until the appearance of the present study only a few vagueness could be said about the work of protection of the Historical Heritage Artistic on the part of the side that lost the war. Dr. Alvarez Lopera has learned in the following pages, integrating it in the context of the general cultural policy of the Republic, carefully explain the administrative trajectory of heritage protection, the struggle for the control of those who destroyed it, the pros and cons. cons of the transfers of the works of art of the Prado Museum, the role of propaganda and party sectarianism and other issues of no lesser importance. From his detained study, conclusions can be drawn that practically exhaust the Investigation despite the foreseeable difficulties to do so given the objective difficulties of the same.
