Exposiciones vistas. Doce fotógrafos en el Museo del Prado. Twelve photographers at the Prado Museum

Doce fotógrafos en el Museo del Prado

Museo Nacional del Prado. Madrid 21/09/2018 - 13/01/2019

.............. The exhibition presents a collection of twenty-four photographs taken by twelve contemporary photographers who, on the occasion of the celebration of the Bicentennial of the institution, have been invited by the Foundation Friends of the Museum of the Prado to show his vision about his collections.
There are twelve creators who reflect on the Museum through photographic technique, twelve different and personal views that are inspired by the works treasured by the Museum, but also in the aura that surrounds them, the building that shelters them and in those who contemplate them ............

When the Prado Museum offers the possibility of being photographed to a series of great photographers, we find ourselves before an exhibition of obligatory visit.
Possibly we are facing a theme, container and content of great beauty, which impresses even though we all, many, have seen it numerous times.
While painting creates a reality, photography, in principle, needs a reality to be created. (This, said well, was true before and not today but I include it to better explain myself)
I saw the exhibition if I watch the video and maybe that's why my point of view is that of a simple amateur who will see some photos.
In the video many artists explain themselves, explain their photos, as a project, not as a photo or photos.
As a curiosity, it strikes me that none of them has taken, even in one of the two photos, the building (or its rooms) as the main theme or as the main theme.
Let's review, brief opinions on the photos seen, I repeat, opinions, critics are the ones who make criticism.

Javier Campano. Still life red mullet. Impress the ability of photography (thanks to its means operated by the hand of the artist) to make a still life. The fish "live" as painted is an excellent interpretation of a painted still life (great lighting) with the camera.

Isabel Muñoz They asked him for a photo of the Prado and he took one of those photos from his file of men and women under water ... adjusting the explanation, see video, to the requested topic. Nothing original, already seen.

Chema Madoz Being a photographer who started from his own idea, it cost him work, frames and bevels, to adjust to the theme. They are Madoz but I do not know if they are from the Prado.

Pierre Gonnard He put one of his usual portraits but, to accompany the crow gives more idea of the uses that had the building (Museum of Natural Sciences)

Bleda and Rosa. I think they are the ones who fit the assignment the most. Painting, space, architecture appear in the work. We know we are in the Prado.

García Alix. The cost to find-find in the order but, through the double exposure, get some beautiful photos.

Cristina de Middel, uses, to some extent, the same approach as García Alix but with a better, much better result. I think that of all the photos present it is the one that best fulfills the order.

Fontcuberta. With this theme I expected much more from him.
