Estas fotos fueron objeto de post anteriores en los cuales comentaba su interés si bien no localizaba el lugar representado ni la procesión que vemos en las mismas.
Recientemente un amable lector me ha facilitado la identificación de la iglesia como la Iglesia de San Juan de la Arena.
Una vuelta a las fotos me permiten identificar los trajes marineros en los miembros de la procesión lo que, a su vez, nos informa que se trata de la Procesión Marinera de San Juan de La Arena que se celebra el día 24 de Junio. En esta procesión se transportan las imágenes de San Juan, San Telmo y la Virgen del Carmen. Su trayecto va desde la iglesia a la rula.
La procesión marinera de San Juan de La Arena opta a ser declarada de interés turístico regional
..................es una tradición centenaria de la que el Consejo destaca «su originalidad, ligada a la faena pesquera y con la que se iniciaba la costera del bonito, que posteriormente era procesado en las fábricas de conserva de la localidad y que pervivieron hasta los años 70 del siglo pasado». Su recorrido, desde la iglesia parroquial hasta la antigua rula, tiene la peculiaridad de que sus costaleros van ataviados con trajes de marinero, portando las imágenes de San Juan, San Telmo y la Virgen del Carmen, tras la cual se procede a la bendición de las aguas..................
Vista general y vista aumentada de la misma foto para ver con más detalle a los participantes. La procesión entra ya en el camino precedida de la bandera.
Firma en el cartón con el domicilio en Avilés por tanto anterior a 1905 cuando el fotógrafo ya no figura en el censo de Avilés ( personalmente pienso que las fotos se pueden fechar entre 1890-1900).
Esta foto representa el momento anterior cuando la procesión se esta formando delante de la iglesia. Se pueden ver los trajes de marineros en las ampliaciones que presento de la foto ( en lado derecho. En lado izquierdo de la misma podemos ver algunos vehículos de la época.)
Por último señalar que en el lote entró una foto del mismo autor con las mismas condiciones ( tamaño, cartón etc) que estas dos fotos y que pienso pertenecen también a San Juan de la Arena y estar realizadas en la misma fecha dado el traje de gala del guardia civil.
En este caso es un retrato de grupo de la gente "importante", es decir los curas, la guardia civil y, digamos, gente bien vestida lo que indica un buen nivel económico. A la derecha vemos la criada con los niños.
....Un amable lector me informa que en las fotos se ven postes de luz lo que indica que la fecha más posible sea 1900 pues llegó a San Juan de la Arena a finales de 1900. También me señala que en esta foto de gente "importante" hay personajes que estan en la de la procesión siendo, por tanto, con seguridad también foto de San Juan de la Arena..........

El fotógrafo es Ramón Garcia Duarte dueño de uno de los estudios más importantes de fotografía de comienzos del siglo XX en Asturias.

Sus inicios como fotógrafo hay que situarlos en Avilés. En esa ciudad tuvo estudios en la calle Rui Pérez y la calle de la Estación.
Su formación en Bellas Artes le permite destacar pronto realizando ampliaciones retocadas. Su fama se va extendiendo por Oviedo y Gijón, destacan sus retratos femeninos de gran belleza y naturalidad.
Datos para una historia de la fotografía en Avilés
.........Nacido en Lugo de Llanera en 1862, hijo de un matrimonio de campesinos de economía desahogada, estudió en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Oviedo
..............Teodoro González Pumariega, «recién retornado de Cuba, se
instalaría en 1888 en la calle La Industria», y en su estudio comenzó a
trabajar Ramón García Duarte. Al año siguiente se independizó y abrió
estudio propio en la calle de Rui Pérez, donde permaneció hasta 1891,
cuando se trasladó por breve tiempo a la calle de la Fruta.
Posteriormente se estableció en el número 22 de la calle de la Estación,
en el barrio de Sabugo, hasta al menos el año 1900.
Ramón G. Duarte, en la calle de San Bernardo, y Gustavo
Bellmunt, en la del Rivero, son los únicos fotógrafos que figuran en
Avilés en la 'Guía general de Asturias' (año II, 1904), de José
Gutiérrez Mayo y Gerardo Álvarez Uría En la edición siguiente (1905) no figura ningún fotógrafo en Avilés
Recordemos también que:
Manuel García Alonso fue sobrino de Ramón Garcia Duarte y, en un principio, firmaba así sus fotos hasta que su tío, más famoso que el , se lo prohibió.
........En ese periodo de un año en que funcionaron los dos estudios ovetense y avilesino de Duarte, había estado al frente del de la villa del Adelantado su sobrino Manuel García Alonso, que abrió en 1905 su propio local en Las Meanas (entonces parque del Retiro) y firmaba sus fotografías como 'Manuel Duarte', lo que provocó un enfrentamiento con su tío por el uso de su nombre comercial. A raíz de ello la firma pasó a ser 'Manuel Alonso (sobrino de Duarte)'. Toda su actividad se centró en Avilés, donde era conocido como Manolín Duarte, aunque colaboró asiduamente en periódicos, revistas y publicaciones regionales y nacionales. Falleció en 1955 y su interesante archivo, de placas de cristal y negativos, lamentablemente se perdió ............

This represents the previous time when the procession is forming in front of the church. You can see the sailor suits extensions presented in photo (on the right side. On the left side of the same vehicles can see some of the time.)
