Estas dos fotografías muestran dos de los puentes que jalonan una de las históricas autopistas americanas, situada en el Estado de Oregon, la Historic Columbia Highway.

Representan

• Bridge over Grande Ronde River near Perry, Old Oregon Trail, in Union County

• Bridge over the grande Ronde River and O.W.R.& N. Railway tracks near Hilgard, on the old Oregon Trail.

Ambos puentes de hierro sirvieron para trazar la carretera que discurre por la montaña siguiendo el recorrido del rio Columbia.

Esta autopista esta considerada como monumento nacional - Historic Landmark-en Estados Unidos. Fue una obra de ingeniería avanzada para su tiempo y que se realizoósiguiendo la idea de las primeras autopistas de montañas que se realizaron en Europa, mas exactamente en Suiza.











El fotógrafo es Arthur Prentiss uno de los mas reputados fotógrafos de Oregón del primer tercio del siglo XX y que, hay que destacarlo muy especialmente, trabajó para el archivo fotográfico de la Farm Security Administration.

  • Angelus Studio Photograps University of Oregon. Historic Photographs Collections: George Weister founded the studio, and had negatives dating back to 1872. He worked as an official photographer for a railroad company. The bulk of his work was commercial photography. According to the typewritten paper, and ms notes, he died in 1918 or 1922 or 1923. Upon Weister's death (or disability) he sold his studio to Arthur Prentiss, who had worked for him since 1910 ( Oregon Photographers by Thomas Robinson)

These photographs are a National Landmark of the history of the United States:The black-and-white photographs of the Farm Security Administration-Office of War Information Collection are a landmark in the history of documentary photography. The images show Americans at home, at work, and at play, with an emphasis on rural and small-town life and the adverse effects of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and increasing farm mechanization. Some of the most famous images portray people who were displaced from farms and migrated West or to industrial cities in search of work.
