Para un aficionado a la foto antigua la mejor exposición de PhotoEspaña es la que presenta la Biblioteca Nacional de España:

Las fotos que vemos son, por supuesto en mejor calidad, las que forman parte principal de cualquier colección de fotografía.

Monumentos de España, algunos hoy desaparecidos, cuando no muy cambiados (seria impresionante saber exactamente cuántos y cuánto han sido restaurados muchos monumentos que vemos hoy día como completamente antiguos, como por ejemplo, los castillos).

Repetidamente he manifestado que el monumento en todas sus formas es el primer objeto de fotografía que, muy pronto,se va a ampliar como reclamo o recuerdo turístico con los viajes del llamado gran tour.

Por destacar algo, entre mucho por destacar, mencionar los álbumes que se muestran que nos permiten acercarnos a esta forma de presentación poco frecuente hoy en el mercado de foto antigua ( salvo para grandes capitales...).

Y, como opinión personal, la cada vez mayor atención, interés que me producen las fotos de Laurent, estudio fotográfico cuyas fotos, puede que por demasiado vistas, no apreciemos en toda su calidad media, como se ve, comparativamente en esta exposición.

Lo dicho, exposición para no perderse.

 Este estudio nos muestra una amplia historia de la relación entre la arquitectura y la fotografía y es, posiblemente, la más completa publicación en un solo texto sobre fotografía y arquitectura en el siglo XIX.

Arquitectura y fotografía, la fotografía de los edificios es uno de los temas más habituales en el siglo XIX de ahí que publicaciones como esta nos sean de gran utilidad para fechar e informar sobre las fotos.

Además está acompañado de muchos datos sobre su desarrollo en otros países, incluye fotos y, por si fuera poco, tiene su traducción íntegra al inglés.

.........Tras el análisis de todas ellas y ante la inexistencia, además, de cualquier estudio pormenorizado previo, y para el caso español, nos planteamos realizar la tesis doctoral Fotografía y Arquitectura en España (1839-1886), que analiza y expone las relaciones entre ambas disciplinas desde la fecha oficial de la creación de la fotografía hasta el fallecimiento del fotógrafo de origen francés, Jean Laurent, por ser la figura que a través de su firma comercial, ejemplificó de forma excepcional todas las posibles vías de desarrollo que la fotografía de arquitectura alcanzaría en el siglo XIX

Excelente estudio, ameno de leer, con numerosas fotografías que nos explica muy bien como y qué fotografió Clifford así como sus impresiones sobre España, impresiones que va a transmitir al mundo, en parte en la exposicion de 1854 de la Royal Society de Londres.

 De la misma autora anterior complementa la visión de la obra de Clifford como fotógrafo y nos informa como se incluyeron fotos de España en esta exposición que , casi, podemos decir fue la primera visión fotográfica de España a nivel internacional.

• En el libro del Canal de Isabel II, el Canal Patrimonio Histórico se recoge en imagen y texto las fotos que Charles Clifford realizó sobre sus obras, estando consideradas de las primeras fotos que documentan trabajos de ingenieria en España 

Y sobre Laurent, recordar también este buen documento, muy completo sobre su biografía.

Pues bien señalar que, además de un estudio de la fotografía y sus procedimientos en sus albores tiene un amplio estudio sobre la vida y obra de Jean Laurent.

Dentro de dicho estudio contiene herramientas útiles para los coleccionistas como es, por ejemplo, un apartado dedicado a la datación de las fotos de Laurent cosa muy de agradecer y no fácil de averiguar en algunas de sus fotos que tuvieron, recordemos, muchas ediciones.
