La foto en realidad nos muestra un bello paisaje montañoso al fondo y la línea de una carretera que cruza el valle.
Curiosamente la foto indica que fue hecha por dos fotógrafos lo cual, supongo, es un error o desconocimiento sobre cual de ellos realmente la hizo.

......La Serie Patronato Nacional de
Turismo engloba un importante volumen de fotografías y otra
documentación gráfica: carteles de información de actividades, folletos
informativos, etc. En total, 344 cajas, que incluyen 80.975
fotografías, 49 sobres de índices fotográficos y 7 álbumes.
La fracción más antigua de la serie, denominada Catálogo Monumental de España,
se realizó entre los años 1928, fecha de creación del Patronato, y
1936, momento en que las actividades de promoción del turismo quedan
interrumpidas por la Guerra Civil. Este catálogo se compone de 3.861
fotografías de diferentes lugares y tema vario, pero siempre relacionado
con la actividad turística........
En este estudio nos señalan que
..En 1938 la Administración sublevada crea el Servicio
Nacional de Turismo dependiente del Ministerio del Interior. Definitivamente
convertido en Dirección General del Turismo en 1939 asumió las competencias del
extinto Patronato, competencias que incluían la continuación del archivo
fotográfico.
La dependencia de esta Dirección General cambió en 1941 a la Vicesecretaría de Educación
Popular hasta su definitiva adscripción en 1951 al recién creado Ministerio de
Información y Turismo, que se mantuvo hasta 1977…….
…Por ser este bloque uno de los más importantes en cuanto
a producción fotográfica, señalaremos varios aspectos que se consideran de
importancia:
- Se tratan de verdaderos archivos fotográficos creados
por diferentes unidades dentro de la estructura de un Ministerio o de un
organismo. No son fotografías sueltas ni dispersas entre los expedientes
administrativos, configuraron una unidad definida, como archivo fotográfico,
servicio fotográfico, etcétera.
- La inmensa mayoría de las imágenes que se conservan en
estos archivos fotográficos administrativos son el resultado de verdaderos
profesionales, con lo cual la calidad y valía artística de las imágenes es
superior a la de otros fondos…
Era un edificio soberbio, de piedra caliza labrada, sobrio pero con
una elegancia inigualable, emplazado estratégicamente para poder
observar desde él todo el paisaje.
Fue obra del arquitecto Delgado Ubeda gran aficionado a la
montaña y enamorado desde hacía tiempo de estos parajes. Logró llevar a
cabo una obra espléndida, clasificada como hotel de lujo, en el que el
viajero pudiera disfrutar de las mayores comodidades al tiempo de
sentirse en un ambiente cálido y familiar.
Las inclemencias del tiempo así como la importación de
materiales a una zona que, en aquellos tiempos (e incluso hoy), se
hallaba mal comunicada, hicieron que, no pocas veces, se tuviera que
paralizar su construcción. Pese a todo, tras cinco duros años, El
Parador Nacional de Riaño pudo abrirse al público y marcó el comienzo de
una etapa de esplendor y abundancia para Riaño.
Inaugurado el año 1951 fue uno de los
primeros Paradores que hubo en España. Se tardó
en ejecutar la obra unos 5 años debido a las malas infraestructuras
de la zona y los duros períodos invernales.
Durante los 10 primeros años se mantuvo abierto permanentemente
pero a partir de entonces se cerró durante el invierno
debido a la falta de actividad por la carencia de infraestructuras
adecuadas en carreteras, las dificultades climatológicas,
etc...
En 1969 el anterior parador cerró sus puertas, tras 18
años de funcionamiento, por no tener viabilidad económica,
según los informes oficiales. Años después
fué expropiado por la Confederación Hidrográfica
del Duero y demolido con la promesa de reconstruirlo en un futuro.
