Sobre el coleccionismo de fotografía. Aprender y ver. PHotoEspaña 2015
Varias veces me han preguntado sobre algunos documentos básicos del coleccionismo fotográfico.
De vez en cuando en algún post he comentado alguno.
Realmente no es mi tema pues para ello hay críticos y especialistas , pero por dar algunas ideas que a mí me fueron útiles señalar, actualizar en este post, doy algunos datos:
- El primer consejo, el mejor, es ver- ver y ver mucha fotografía. Aprovechemos en estas fechas PHotoEspaña 2015, con excelentes exposiciones de todo tipo de artistas, de puntos de vista fotográfico, de tiempo ( foto antigua y actual)
- El segundo consejo : Leer y formarse para lo cual hay infinitas publicaciones en el mercado.
Aqui presento algunas pocas que son de descarga libre, gratuitas.
- En mi opinión el mejor libro es "Sobre la fotografía" de Susan Sontag. Explica mejor que nadie, que yo sepa, que es y como ver una fotografía.
Otros libros o documentos:
- Howard Greenberg. Es un conocido galerista y reputado coleccionista de foto. Tenemos disponible un pequeño dossier de cuando expuso parte de su colección en el Centro Cartier Bresson.

Dans votre collection, il y a un certain nombre de petits formats de grandes photos.

J’ai toujours été attiré par les petits formats. Je ne sais pas pourquoi. La seule chose que je peux dire, c’est que j’aime être proche, être très près, même d’une grande photo. Un petit format recèle une forme d’intimité. Déjà, quand j’étais photographe, on ne tirait plus vrai- ment en petit format. Les grands tirages étaient en 40 x 50 cm, le format moyen 30 x 40. Si on voulait faire des économies, on choisissait le 18 x 24, mais on tirait très rarement en plus petit. Dans les petits formats, il y a un sens de l’histoire qui m’attire.
A de rares occasions, je me suis trouvé face à des images célèbres, proposées en petits formats. Je les ai tout de suite intégrées dans ma collection.

El cuidado, manipulación y almacenamiento de fotografías
El manejo de colecciones incluye cuatro componentes básicos:
inventario, evaluación, catalogación y acondicionamiento
(en cajas, envoltorios y almacenamiento apropiados). El inventario es
necesario para determinar cuáles procesos fotográficos
están representados en la colección, cuáles copias
están montadas, cuáles no, o si están en álbumes.
La evaluación de la colección incluye un análisis
detallado, teniendo en cuenta el valor histórico y/o comercial,
si la fotografía debe formar parte de la colección de acuerdo
con la misión de la institución, un diagnostico de las
necesidades de almacenamiento y preservación. La catalogación
y organización incluye la identificación de cada objeto
anotando su fecha original y asignándole un numero de catálogo.

Sobre museos es bueno recordar al Getty del que se dice-la verdad es que no me acuerdo donde lo leí- que fue el primer museo que se dedicó a la compra masiva de fotografía antigua para sus fondos marcando el camino a la entrada de la foto antigua en el mundo "oficial" de un museo

- La Real Colección de Fotografía. Introducción al conocimiento de una colección histórica. Excelente artículo de Dña. Reyes Utrera con numerosas fotos.
Reportaje fotográfico realizado por William Atkinson, un ingeniero inglés que participó en la construcción del ferrocarril de Santander a Alar del Rey
en el tramo de Reinosa a Alar. Las fotografías, fechadas entre 1855 y
1857, se consideran la colección de imágenes fotográficas más antiguas
conocidas en nuestro país. Con ellas confeccionó un album que se entregó
como regalo a la reina Isabel II, y se conserva en el Archivo General
del Palacio Real (Madrid-Patrimonio Nacional). Son 86 fotos sobre
cartulina, realizadas utilizando el sistema del colodión húmedo. De
ellas 48 son estereoscópicas.
Es otro buen documento de Dña. Reyes Utrera que nos muestra esta faceta de coleccionismo fotográfico de la casa real española

Care, handling and storage of photographs
Collection management includes four basic components: inventory, evaluation, documentation and packaging (boxes, packaging, and storage). Inventory is needed to determine which photographic processes are represented in the collection and which prints are mounted, which are not, or are in albums. The evaluation of the collection includes a detailed analysis, taking into account the historical and / or market value, if the picture should be part of the collection according to the mission of the institution, a diagnosis of the needs of storage and preservation.
