Gabriele Basilico: Silicon Valley
en "Archives Nationales, in Daniel and Bergdoll, Photographs of Baldus,
32."):
Charles Nègre claimed that when visiting an architectural site he would take three kinds of photographs:
- for the architect, a general view "with the aspect and precisionof a geometric elevation";
- for the sculptor, close-up views of the mostinteresting details;
- and for the painter, a picturesque view capturing the"imposing effect" and "poetic charm" of the monument.

The ICO Museum presents "Gabriele Basilico. Entropy and urban space ", the first major retrospective in Spain of this Italian photographer
The exhibition displays 185 photographs, a selection of more than 70 books published by Basilico throughout his career and four videos on various aspects of his work to perform a general review of his entire photographic career. The exhibition is part of his first series focusing on landscape and architecture, Milan, ritratti di fabbriche, to conclude with the images of some of the contemporary metropolis, such as Rio de Janeiro or Shanghai.
Many years ..... many ... in 2008 I commented on an exposition of Basilico with the following words:
Gabriele Basilico: Silicon Valley
His predilection for the theme of the cities, especially the limits of the cities made me come to see the exhibition.
For the commentary on this exhibition I am going to use a quote from one of the French pioneers of photography, Negre, which I believe is very complete (obtained from notebooks in "Archives Nationales, in Daniel and Bergdoll, Photographs of Baldus, 32.") :

And for the painter, a picturesque view capturing the "imposing effect" and "poetic charm" of the monument.
I think that, from the previous classifications that the photographer Négre directed of the photos about architecture Basilico's vision approaches the first in most of the photos. In other words, his photograph documents, in this exhibition a part of the city seen with appearance and precision. Nevertheless, it does not arrive, except for occasions, to achieve the imposing effect and the poetic charm of the places.Well today I have to confess that seeing a retrospective, a wider sample of his work my opinion improves because we are before a great photographer, an excellent photos, an exhibition that is worth seeing, especially for those fans of photography architecture.
Now we are facing a photographer "very good", which is a lot, but not before one of those photographers of architecture that come to show us the "different" side of reality that point that separates the very good, which is Basilico, Of the "great of photography" like Walker Evans, who with much less does much more.But go and see it, it's worth it, this is, as always, a personal opinion.
